Just us, or was this week a doozy? Here are a few things that floated across our screens that brought some lessons, learnings, joy or solace to us.

Simone Biles Chose Herself. And in so choosing inspired us to check in with what each of us know, and to choose ourselves, too.

A reminder: A profession is not a personality. An important meditation on how we find meaning in our lives outside of the capitalist infrastructure of “work.” There’s a little questionnaire in the article that can serve as a starting place.

Important new research that tells us something we already knew: Black women who have experienced more racism throughout their lives have stronger brain responses to threat, which may hurt hurt long-term health. In other words, racism kills.

As always, believe Black women.

For our people in or near LA, Los Angeles Has Its First Afro-Mexican Restaurant. Tamales Elena y Antojitos is inspired by the cuisine of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, which has a long-standing African and Afro-Mexican community.
